Debutant from Eritrea Secures Victory in Kagoshima Marathon
The Kagoshima Marathon witnessed a triumphant debut as Dejen Tesfalem Weldu, hailing from Eritrea in East Africa, claimed victory in his inaugural run. The marathon, graced by clear skies, drew a total of 6,607 participants for the full marathon and 2,823 for the 8.9km fun run, with spectators lining the route to cheer on the runners.
Dejen Tesfalem Weldu, representing Minamisatsuma Tokyo Co., Ltd., clinched the top spot with an impressive time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 50 seconds. The second position was secured by Yusuke Tobimatsu, a civil servant runner from Hioki Municipality, who was aiming for his fifth consecutive victory.
In the women’s category, Miyuki Uehara of Kagoshima Bank, a representative in the Rio Olympics eight years ago, emerged victorious with a time of 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 17 seconds. Rio Tateyama of Miyazaki Bank claimed the second position in the race. The event showcased a spirited display of athleticism and marked a memorable debut for Dejen Tesfalem Weldu in the Kagoshima Marathon.
